Update on OOB Car Show date!

Updated date on OOB Car Show:
Old Orchard Beach Car Show & Parade - 15th Annual

The 15th Annual Old Orchard Beach Car Show and Parade will take place September 12 – 13th with hundreds of truly distinctive and classic antique cars and trucks on display. The weekend kicks of Friday night with numerous superbly restored and maintained classic cars and trucks on display. Old Orchard Street is closed to traffic to make way for this vintage car display. Participating cars and trucks then form the now famous Car Show Parade. This is a unique opportunity to view these vintage vehicles "cruising" East and West Grand Avenue, creating a scene reminiscent of decades gone by.

The actual Car Show Exhibit, the 15th Annual Old Orchard Beach Car Show will take place from 8am to 3:00pm on Saturday. Car Show registration will be from 8am to Noon with final balloting by 1pm. All cars registered for the show receive a commemorative Car Show dash plaque. Car Show winners are to be announced at approximately 2:30pm and trophies for all categories will be awarded at that time. Following the winners presentations, there is a Grand Finale Car Parade along East and West Grand Avenues to wrap up this weekend of fun.

Carlisle

We had a good turnout at Carlisle and it seemed everyone was enjoying themselves and the weather. It was much more comfortable than some other years. We enjoyed seeing one of our past presidents, Alan Anthony with his wife Bobbye and two couples that joined them from Florida. Other Vette owners from Pa. were also at our Inn. Everyone had their own agenda and schedules and seemed to accomplish what they came to do! It was great to have everyone from Maine there. The show was great although some of the major vendors were not at the fairgrounds this year. Red, white and blue Corvettes made up the flag for photo opportunites. Hope you all found everything on your parts lists and had a pleasant drive back.

It was a beautiful day Sunday for the car show at the Togus Veteran's Hospital hosted by the Rusty Nuts Car Club. Eleven of us met at the Roy's in South China and cruised in, meeting a couple more at the field. This show has increased in attendance every year and the Rusty Nuts should be commended for a fine job this year. The food was great, the raffle and door prize items more than ample. We were happy to have enjoyed the company of some perspective members of VOCM as well and hope to see them a future event. Thanks to all of you that attended and made this a special day for the Veterans. It was wonderful to see so many patients able to get outside and enjoy the fine weather and mingle with the vehicle owners. Larry of the Rusty Nuts spoke with me and thanked us for coming and thanks in turn were given to him for a great event. Well done Rusty Nuts!!

I want to thank those who came out for the China Community Days car show on Saturday. Our own Larry Constanzer and crew did a fine job getting the cars registered and set up, his children helped count ballots and handed out the trophies---a real family effort. The weather was overcast but it did not rain. Attending from VOCM was Marcia Lamont, Skip and Kathy Morrissette, Joan Janowski and Ron and Margie. While we waited for ballots to be counted, we took in the magic show, visited the vendors, and ate, of course. :) JJ took a few of the group on a geocaching expedition down a trail behind the China school. I think Ron has found a new hobby!

Be sure to check our calendar for events--Togus Veteran's picnic on August 17th. Meet at the Roys in China at 9:30 a.m. or at the Wiscasset or Topsham locations at 8:30 to caravan to Togus.

It was hot hot hot in Owls Head on Sunday and a huge turnout on the old airstrip. The club parked on the grass and held our meeting. We got the report from JJ on the Bar Harbor financials, and voted to have another event next spring. Get out your beach gear, straw hats and sunglasses as we will host a hot, hot, hot Margaritaville or Marga & Rita Ville in Bar Harbor. That should be a theme that everyone can handle with not much preparation. Keep a lookout for those hibiscus flowered shirts and cut off jeans. We know there are a few guitar players amongst you. Don?? Bret?? Al K.?? ( Maybe we can extend an invite to Jimmy B. to the buffet. ) It will be five o'clock somewhere.....probably in Bar Harbor.
